Chapter 27

Savannah woke with a start. Images of the redhead that she had just met a couple of hours ago lingered in her mind. Why was she dreaming about her and Cody?

Before she could answer her own question, Emma knocked on the opened door, stuck her head in and said, “It’s quarter after eight. You still up for going to the Sand Crab to meet Danika?”

Yep. Now more than ever. I’ve got questions.

“Be ready in fifteen,” she said pulling herself out of bed. Feeling somewhat drugged, she shuffled to the bathroom and turned the shower on hot. That always seemed to snap her back to reality. She scrubbed her face and shampooed her hair. Then she just let the hot water pound all of the kinks and fatigue out of her body.

“I ordered us a pizza,” came Jade’s muffled voice through the bathroom door. “It should be here in a few minutes.”

Pizza! She hadn’t realized until now how famished she was. She quickened her shower routine, dried off and then wrapped the towel around her body. Then she hurried into her bedroom and slipped on a sleeveless, yellow, floral, summer dress. A quick brush through her wet hair, a bit of mascara and some coral colored lipstick, and she was ready to go.

She walked into the living room just as someone knocked on the door.

“I’ll get it,” she yelled. When she opened it up, she smiled. “So not only do you own the place, but you deliver, too? What service!”

Kip stood at the door holding a large pizza box in his hands. “Only the best for my guests.”

Savannah opened the door further and gestured with her hand. “Come on in.”

Kip looked tentatively around and then stepped through the doorway into the living room. He walked over to the dining room table and set it down. “One extra-large margarita pizza. You ladies must be hungry.”

Savannah grabbed her purse off of the counter, pulled a twenty from her wallet and said, “Here, let me pay you.”

Kip waved his hand at the money and said, “Nah, don’t worry about it. It’s on the house.” He seemed to fidget, shifting his weight from one foot to the other.

“Wow, something sure smells good. The pizza must be here,” said Emma from the hallway. When she entered the living room and saw Kip, she stopped. “Oh, hi.”

“Hi,” said Kip, a grin spreading across his face. “You look nice, all dressed up. You ladies going out on the town?”

Emma, dressed in a pair of black Capris, a pink, boat necked crop top that stopped right above her belly button, and a pair of silver jeweled sandals, flushed slightly and said, “Thanks. Actually we’re meeting a friend down at your bar. Her name’s Danika Knight. Do you know her?”

“Oh yeah. She’s a regular when she’s in town.” His eyes lingered on Emma momentarily and then he said, “Well, I guess I better let you eat before it gets cold.” He walked right past Jade nearly bumping into her. “See you ladies a little later.
